Willie Walsh, boss of British Airways-owner International Airlines Group, today warned passengers they further fare rises as the industry suffers from the high oil price. The cost of crude has dramatically dropped over the past week, but airlines buy much of their fuel six or more months in advance. British Airways Increases Flights to Rio de Janeiro
British Airways is increasing its services to Brazil by doubling its weekly frequency to Rio de Janeiro from three to six flights. Flights to Rio de Janeiro will now depart Heathrow for Rio every day, except Mondays. The departure time remains at 12.15pm, landing in Rio at 9.55pm local time. A British Airways employee was sacked after he threatened to poison a strike-breaking pilot’s food, an employment tribunal heard. Bryan Benning also allegedly posted abusive messages about other BA strike-breakers on YouTube, including sinister threats saying he knew ‘car and other details of scabs.’ He allegedly said that strike-breakers were hated by cabin crew, who thought pilots were just ‘glorified bus drivers’. British Airways has increased capacity on its popular London City to Palma service by 50 per cent to meet the demand for seats this summer. With additional frequency and larger aircraft the airline will be providing over 25,000 seats to the Spanish holiday island direct from the Docklands making holidays to Palma de Mallorca more accessible than ever before.
