British Airways celebrating Olympic countdown

British Airways’ countdown to the London 2012 Olympics has begun in earnest, with the decoration of one of its aircraft in honour of the sporting event.

The carrier – which is the official airline partner of the 2012 Games – has confirmed that it is expecting to fly in visitors for next year’s event from more than 150 locations across the globe.

A BA Airbus A318 has been painted with the slogan ‘One Year To Go,’ and it will fly from London City airport to New York today at 13.05. Flight BA011 will fly past the Olympic Park, so get ready to wave if you spy it as the message will be visible to those in east London.

BA’s director of engineering, Garry Copeland, said, “This is the first time in the history of British Airways that we have branded the underbelly of an aircraft with a celebratory message.

“We hope it will bring a real sense of excitement to the Olympic Park and people living around the area. With the countdown underway, British Airways is preparing to welcome the world to Great Britain in 2012,” he added.

The airline will upload footage of the Olympic flight once it has taken place on its YouTube channel.
